This started off as a raw egg. It was soaked in vinegar, which dissolved the shell. It was then placed in corn syrup, where the egg shriveled. Next, it was placed in a tea bath and dyed brown. It was again placed in corn syrup, where it shrank a second time. Doesn’t it look like it’s made out of paper?

I’m guessing these designs are caused by termites, but I’m not a termite expert.
